Overview
Dallas is the ninth-largest city in the United States and the commercial anchor of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex — a 7.8-million-person metro that is the fourth-largest in the country. A major hub for finance, energy, telecom, and defence, DFW Airport is one of the world's busiest. Dallas has no natural bodies of water and was built entirely on economic opportunity — cattle, cotton, oil, and now technology.

📜 History & Origins
John Neely Bryan established a trading post at a ford on the Trinity River in 1841. Dallas was platted as a city in 1856. The arrival of two railroads in 1872 transformed it from a small settlement into a commercial hub almost overnight. Oil discoveries in East Texas in the 1930s brought banking and finance wealth. The assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas on 22 November 1963 made Dealey Plaza one of the most visited sites in American history. The city rebuilt its image through the booming 1980s 'Dallas' TV era and has since become a major corporate relocation destination.

The Perot Museum of Nature and Science is excellent for families.
Geography & Climate
Land & Terrain
Surface area and physical characteristics
Located on the flat Blackland Prairie of north-central Texas at approximately 139m elevation. The terrain is almost entirely flat, a result of the underlying Cretaceous limestone and chalk geology. The Trinity River runs through the western part of the city. The broad, open landscape provides unobstructed views and — notably — no natural topographic features of significance. This flat terrain made Dallas ideal for its grid of roads and rail lines.
