📜 History & Origins
Founded by the Kingdom of Shu around the 4th century BCE, making it one of China's oldest continuously inhabited cities. It served as the capital of Liu Bei's Shu Han state during the Three Kingdoms era (220–263 CE). The Tang Dynasty poet Du Fu lived here and wrote some of his most celebrated work. Unlike most major Chinese cities, Chengdu has retained its name unchanged across every dynasty and political era for over 2,300 years.

Located on the Chengdu Plain — the only large continuous flat land in Sichuan — at approximately 500m above sea level, enclosed by mountains on all sides. The Dujiangyan irrigation system (250 BCE, UNESCO) in the northwest feeds the plain.
